In 1979 KISS was no longer just KISS, but SuperKISS! And the new outfits were
reflecting the new superhero image!
For the solo albums each member had gotten their own signature color, and this was
incorporated into the outfits, and the shows as well.
Peter's
costumes resembled Paul's in many ways. A black leotard with designs in Peters signature
color green. The cape seen in picture A was only part of the costume when the band
appeared on stage at the start of the show... it must have been way to hot to play in!
Anyway, the cape was a green fur coat, with green lion heads on the shoulders (seen in
close-up in picture B). For photo shoots Peter would also wear furry platform boots. Also
seen in picture B is a green "leopard skin" scarf tied over the chest. This only
appears in a few early promotional photos!
In picture C you can see the green cuffs, and armbands with crosses that were also part of
the outfit. You can also see the belt, which had already been used in 1978!
The picture C costume was the prototype version, however. As you can see from the next
photo (picture D), a silver border was added around the chest cutout and armholes.
Picture E is from later in 1979, and as you can see Peter's outfit had by then green
borders instead of silver. Also note the belt, which now has a black "eye" in
the middle.
Picture
F is a look at the leotard from picture D, without any obstructions. Here you can clearly
see the "cat fur" pattern of rhinestones down the sides, and on the thighs.
Of course, Peter couldn't drum in his platform boots, but had some flat ones to use in
concert. Two different versions are shown on picture G and H. Picture G shows a plain
green boot, covered with white and orange rhinestones, while picture H shows a green boot
with faux fur covering.
Picture I shows a variation of the belt (circled in). It is very hard to see, but it is
certainly not the same as the other ones used. This is the only picture I have ever seen
of this!
Picture J, K and L shows some medals that Peter wore on his left shoulder (circled in).
Exactly what the medals are, and is supposed to symbolize is difficult to say. The medals
are too small, and the pictures too grainy to see them clearly, except for picture L which
is a small cross!!
This was of course Peter's last costume with KISS!!The costume made its last public
appearance in the Shandi promo clip!
