Love
Gun/Alive II tours 1977/78 &
Reunion tour variations
Like
Paul's Love Gun outfit, Peter's too, were quite complex! The basis was, of course, a black
leotard (picture A), but in Peter's case it was tied together in front with laces. On each
thigh there was three zippers (and as you can see in picture E, they could actually be
unzipped!). On picture B you see the back side of the leotard, which had a large, silver
number 3 (Peter's lucky number!). Note that both picture A and B shows the Reunion tour
version of the outfit.
Picture C shows the original version of the costume, with silver bullet belts, and black
leather cuffs. The cuffs had a cross design made of rhinestones, and two rows of flat,
round studs in each end. The crosses also appeared on the belts around Peter's waist, and
on the leather choker around his neck. These accessories were mainly used for photo
shoots, and only rarely in concerts. Note that Peter doesn't wear his leotard in picture
C, but a pair of tights in the same design.
Picture D is a close-up of Peters platform boots... which he of course never wore in
concert!
Picture F and G shows two
chokers worn by Peter during this period... the one in picture F has two rows of small
round studs, and a few crosses also made from small, round studs. Picture G shows a
different version, almost the same as the one in picture F but without the crosses (and
more studs in the two rows).
Picture H shows a vest that belonged to the outfit, even though the vest first was added
in 1978 (it doesn't appear in any photos before that!). It was silver with black stripes,
and large, green number 3's on each side. The vest was, as far as I know never used in
concert, but might have been made especially for the filming of "Phantom of the
Park". Also seen in picture H is one of the furry cuffs, that also appears in some
publicity photos from this period.
The belt on picture I was later used for Peters Dynasty outfit. The belt in picture C was
the one most often used! Picture I also shows a couple of furry covers for Peter's
boots... they were probably only used for this one photo shoot, since the only appear in
photos from this session.
Picture J and K shows a black vest that appears in a few live shots (it's also
seen in picture E). There's not much to say about it, it's black, it's a vest, and that is
about it!! Picture K shows the backside which has a red and silver number 3, quite similar
to the costume seen in picture B. It has a label, saying "Contessa Studios, New York
- Maria Rubin", sewn into the collar.
Also note that the cuffs worn in picture J, only has one row of flat, round studs in each
end (unlike the one seen in picture C and M, that has two!!).
Picture L shows a couple of medals that Peter wore from time to time. On the left side you
can see a "Medal of Honor", and on the right a small pin with a star, which was
also used in 1975!
Now picture N is a bit of a enigma! Peter is wearing his Rock And Roll Over outfit,
with the accessories from the Love Gun costume!! This picture appears in Chip Rock
Dayton's book Outtakes, and shows KISS posing with a bunch of kids. This is the
only picture I have seen so far of this combination!!
Picture N shows the Reunion tour version of the costume! It was a perfect replica of the
original costume, with no changes what-so-ever! The silver "bullet belts" seen
in pictures C, L and M was sometimes used in concert, and was also much used for photo
shoots for the Reunion tour in 1996/97. The only real difference between the two versions
of the costume, were the "Easton" gloves, Peter is seen wearing in picture N.
