The Lick It Up show looked similar to the
Creatures Of The Night show, but that was only on the surface!
An obvious change was of course, the look of the band members! The make-up and superhero
costumes were gone!!
The years from 1980 to 1983 had not been great years for KISS, especially financially...
and that was easy to see in the Lick It Up shows!! Where the Creatures Of The Night shows
had held back on the effects, the Lick It Up show were totally stripped of them! The stage
was still a tank (as seen in picture 1), and the "turret" moved... but there
were hardly any pyrotechnics at all!
As you also can see in picture 1, is that KISS played in some very small venue's and that
the gun had to be shortened for some shows... otherwise it would cut the stage in two!!
Having the band members running into the gun barrel could have been a lot of fun for the
fans, but probably not for the band!
The band also played in Germany and had to use the other logo for these shows (as you also
can see in picture 1).
Not every
effect had been kicked out of the show however!
The band would still end up on the "gun turret" at the end of "Black
Diamond" and the turret would still turn from side to side, and puffing smoke (as
seen here in picture 2).

Gene
also performed one of his signature stunts: The fire breathing (as seen in picture 3)!Another thing that Gene kept doing wase the bass solo!
As seen in picture 4, Gene still did something similar to the "Hunchback of Notre
Dame" effect in the Creatures Of The Night show, covering behind the bass, making a
cross with the guitar neck and his forearm! But Gene didn't spit blood anymore, even
though he still played with his tongue and rolled his eyes!
Paul Stanley also kept his guitar breaking stunt at the end of the show!!
