GENE SIMMONS COMIC BOOK SIGNING
(from John/MyKissArmy.com)
I went to the Gene Simmons Comic Book signing at Universal City Walk in Los
Angeles, California on July 27, 2002. It was another great experience. I got
there around 10:30 A.M., Gene started signing at 3 P.M. They allowed you to have one
"personal" item signed and as many comic books as you wanted. The comic books
come with three different covers. The first is a cartoon cover, like the inside of the
book. The second is a photo of Kiss and the third is a different photo of Kiss which is a
special San Diego Comic Convention cover. They ran out of the San Diego edition fairly
quickly, so I was able to get the other two covers. There were about 20 people in front of
us in line. When it was our turn to meet Gene, he was so friendly. He would sign anything
that you wanted. He spent a lot of time talking to his fans. He was talking to people on
cellular telephones and posing with some people for pictures. I chose to get my Kiss
picture disc "Alive II" signed and my comic books. Gene was very friendly
and willing to spend a lot of time with his fans. Overall, it was a great experience.

THE VERY BEST OF KISS RELEASED AUGUST 27
(from www.kissonline.com)
ROCK AND ROLL ALL NITE WITH ALL THE HITS FROM THE
HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD COLLECTED ON THEIR BIGGEST-EVER SINGLE-DISC RETROSPECTIVE: THE
VERY BEST OF KISS
With more than 80 million albums sold, SRO tours and more gold-plus awards (24), the #1
American Gold record champ (third overall behind only The Beatles and Rolling Stones),
including late 2001s KISS Box Set, KISS are a rock n roll institution.
Theyve outlasted their first critics who now embrace them like long lost brothers
while their rabid fans, the KISS Army, have stood by them the entire way.
Now the bands greatest hits album serves as both an introduction to KISS for new
fans and the one KISS album listeners who just want the hits-and-nothing-but-the-hits will
need. The Very Best Of KISS (Mercury/UTV Records), released August 27, 2002, collects the
original versions of all of their biggest hits on one 21-track album. Featured on the
chronologically sequenced The Very Best Of KISS are the bands two gold
singles--"Beth" (from 1976s Destroyer) and "I Was Made For Loving
You" (from 1979s Dynasty).
Critics and fans alike have noted the flaws in previous compilations, from 1978s
platinum Double Platinum and 1988s double platinum Smashes, Trashes & Hits to
the most recent attempt, 1997s Greatest Kiss. Truly living up to its "Very Best
Of" billing, from the original hit live version Of "Rock And Roll All
Nite," the groups breakthrough, to the 80s anthem "Lick It Up,"
The Very Best Of KISS is the ultimate summation of their career for a general audience yet
assembled.
The album kicks off with two tracks apiece from the bands first two albums:
"Strutter" and "Deuce" from 1974s KISS and "Got To
Choose" and the title track from that same years Hotter Than Hell.
"Cmon And Love Me" was culled from Dressed To Kill (1975) and "Rock
And Roll All Nite" from ALIVE! (1975).
Two albums from the following year, Destroyer and Rock And Roll Over, are represented by
"Beth," "Detroit Rock City" and "Shout It Out Loud" from the
former and "I Want You," "Calling Dr. Love" and "Hard Luck
Woman" from the latter. 1977s Love Gun also contributes three tracks: "I
Stole Your Gun," "Christine Sixteen" and "Love Gun." Finishing
off the 70s are "New York Groove" from Ace Frehley, one of 1978s
simultaneously released 4 separate KISS solo albums, and "I Was Made For Loving
You" from 1979s Dynasty.
Taken from the 80s are "I Love It Loud" from Creatures Of The Night
(1982), "Lick It Up" from the 1983 album of the same name and
"Forever" from Hot In The Shade (1989). The Very Best Of KISS aptly concludes
with a track from Revenge (1992), "God Gave Rock N Roll To You II."
The Very Best Of KISS is absolutely the best!
The legend continues....

ERIC & GENE AT
CHEAP TRICK SHOW IN L.A.
(from Bret6262@aol.com)
I flew to San Diego for a 4-day class related to work, so I made a Kiss / Cheap Trick week
of it. I went to CT Sunday nite in San Diego, and spoke with Tod Howarth...
Tuesday I drove to Hollywood to the House of Blues. I spotted many in the crowd, including
Gene, Eric Singer, Alice Cooper, Scott Ian, the skater Scott Hamilton, Jack Douglas
(producer), etc...I had CT sign my box set and Gene and Eric sign a Lane Bryant KISS
postcard/gamecard. Gene was alone and Eric was with a date. I asked Eric about the new
song for the Ramones trib. lp. He said it is jut him, Gene, Paul, and the sax player from
Pink Floyd on it. No lead guitarist. They finished it last week, and he said it sounds
good. I asked about the concert in England for the Queen, w/ Queen ..He said Phil Collins
was tapped for that job, and he wasnt a part of it. Gene was in an interesting mood. Two
of us asked for an autograph. He started in on us, saying we were
"professionals"- referring to autograph sellers, etc. (Uhh- Gene I have a full
time job and have given 1/10th of my earnings to you and do not sell autographs but thanks
for your concern) and how he can spot us a mile away, etc. I asked about Ace stating he
may return for a 2003 tour. Gene rolled his eyes and said "Somebody better ask
me!" I asked where he and Shaquille O Neal were at his Las Vegas Party (I was there
but only saw Gene briefly)- Gne wouldnt give me a straight answer. The valet parking man
came up to him and asked if he was waiting for his car. Gene snapped that he has been
waiting 30 minutes and thinks they are joyriding in his Navigator. 2 different musicians
from bands approached him w/ cigarettes in hand, which Gene had comments about. A person
near me said Gene was wearing a George Washington wig, and she was going to get a dollar
bill signed. All in all I ended up w/ 2 Kiss autographs, 4 Cheap Trick
autographs, 30 Rick Nielsen guitar picks, and 1 setlist in my 2 concert adventure (and I
was supposed to be at work).

PETER CRISS TO RE-JOIN KISS?
There was not much going on with Kiss lately. Gene Simmons was busy lately doing
promotion for his new magazine "Gene Simmons Tongue", which has hit the US
market already (but is still not available as import in Europe as it seems...). He did
guest appearances on several US TV shows and threw several release-parties, on which some
Kiss band members appeared as well, including Peter Criss. Gene has also interviewed Peter
for the second issue of his magazine. To find out what they were talking about you'll have
to buy the second issue of "Gene Simmons Tongue magazine". Gene already stated
in interviews, that Peter Criss would be welcome in the band again, if he does accept the
offer he refused last time. It seems that Peter is also considering to at least think
about the offer, if Ace will be in the band as well.
If Ace will renew his contract with Kiss is up in the air. He does not have a record deal
yet and no booking agent for his upcoming solo-tour, and it is said he has not even
started writing songs for his new album yet.
Kiss want to have Ace in the band again, but they will go on tour early 2003 with
or without Ace. In the meantime Gene is busy and Paul is supposed to have his hip surgery.
With Kiss anything is possible, and like they stated in interviews recently there might
even be a band named Kiss with no original band members at some point...

GENES OWN HAIR (WIG) FOR SALE
(from Alexander Zihlmann)
During the Crazy Nights Tour Gene was wearing
over his own hair a wig that had longer hair than his own especially at the sides. I've
been told that Gene had about three of these wigs and that this one was worn at the Tokyo
1988 concert (see video).
The wig comes from THE AUCTION by Butterfields/Greg Manning. Some big collectors who bought a lot from the auction had the possibility to buy items outside the auction. And that's the way it finally came to me.
If you are interested please make an offer to kiss@kiss.ch (also trade is welcome)
