The Creatures of the Night tour were also the bands 10th anniversary, which was
basically also the theme for the outfits. At least for the only two members left from the
original line-up. Ace were touring with the band on a promotion tour through Europe in
November 1982, but by the time the Creatures-tour started, just days before New
Year, Ace was no longer in the band. He had been substituted by session-player Vincent
Cusano, now known as Vinnie Vincent.
Vinnie's
one and only KISS costume, was a black leotard (picture A), with a studded leather vest
(pictures B and C). The leotard had a silver half-moon (or did it symbolize an eclipse of
the sun) on the left thigh. There were also a silver trim down each side (detail in
picture J).
Picture B and C shows the two different vests used. Picture B shows a little used version.
It has a silver half-moon/sun-eclipse at the right shoulder, and a single row of
flat, square studs on each side. The only picture I have ever seen of this appeared in the
KISS Auction catalogue. No pictures in my collection shows Vinnie wearing this one!
The second (and most common) version is shown on picture C: it has several flat,
diamond-shaped studs down the front, a dagger across the half-moon/sun-eclipse, and two
rows of studs at the shoulders. The opening at the chest also had a trim of flat, square
studs. This vest was also worn by Eric Carr in the intro of the "Rise To
It"-video from 1990.
Vinnie's make-up (picture D) was designed by Paul Stanley, and continued the mystic theme
of the costume. It was a golden ankh (an ancient Egyptian cross) across Vinnie's forehead,
and down the bridge of his nose. Black make-up around the eyes, and black lipstick
completed the most short-lived make-up in the history of KISS (aside from Eric's Hawk and
Paul's Bandit make-up, that is).
Picture E is a close-up of the boots. They were just a
basic pair of black, leather platform boots, with some studs or rhinestones on the
platforms and heels. On picture F you can see a variation of these, with silver,
diamond-shaped kneepads, and no rhinestones!! I'm not quite sure which set of boots
came first! The entirely black one I have only seen on a few picture where Gene is wearing
the last version of his costume. But I have also seen several photos of Gene in that
costume, with Vinnie wearing the boots in picture F.
The leotard had sleeves, with silver cuffs, as you can see in picture G and H. Picture H
also shows the v-shaped belt with flat, square studs and rhinestones, and the collar
around Vinnie's neck, covered with four rows of pyramid shaped studs. Also note the ankh
symbol hanging in a chain around Vinnie's neck.
Pictures I to K shows some smaller details
and variations on Vinnie's costume! Picture I shows a different collar, with three rows of
seemingly round studs.
Picture J shows the silver trim down Vinnie's side. Note that you can see the line
continue near Vinnie's armpit, but that most of it is hidden under the vest!
Last, but not least, is picture K, which shows Vinnie without the silver cuffs! This
picture was taken during Vinnie's guitar solo (note the violin bow in his hand!)
