Please note, that many (especially earlier pressings of the '70s & '80s) came with an inlay paper cover, which was just a simple copied sheet of paper. Usually all kind of different colours of paper was used. Obviously they are not all counted as different bootlegs. A different bootleg is counted as such, if it is a different pressing of the vinyl. Old pressings often also have just a white label or something useless written on it, which may differ from one to another.

Values are stated from min - average - max. Please note, that these are just rough estimates. Prices on eBay may be totally different.

Counterfeit Bootlegs are actually the real Bootlegs that hurt the record company. While normal Bootlegs are usually released by fans, which contain unreleased recordings, and do not hurt the sales of the official albums, the Counterfeit Bootlegs are unofficial releases of official albums. While the record company usually do nothing against common Bootlegs, they are strictly after bootleggers who put out Counterfeits, because they hurt the sales of the official albums. The most famous Counterfeit Bootleg is "Carnival of souls", which was available as a Bootleg a long time before it was officially released. The record company even took the name of the album from the Bootleg as it was already well known under that name. There are many Counterfeit Bootlegs from countries like Russia, Turkey and Korea. In Korea some albums came even out on 10 different Bootleg-labels. They are usually exact copies of the official albums in poor quality and have no real collectors value. Therefor they are not listed here. Listed here are just the most interesting ones.

Sometimes record companies just "don't get it". For example, there is definately a market for Kiss vinyl records and every collector wants to have each album also on vinyl, especially Picture Disc. If the record company fails to release it on vinyl/Picture Disc, you bet some Bootleg dealer will be very thankful and print ip up illegally. So if the record company doesn't make the money themselfes by releasing a product people want, then someone else will make the money. Most of the Picture Disc counterfeit Bootlegs came out just because the record company failed to release them.
