BRUCE KULICK & PSYCHO CIRCUS
(from www.melodicrock.com )
Bud Mitch Lafon e-mailed in this interesting update. Bruce Kulick admitted (during a Q&A) at the Montreal Kiss convention today (Sept 28th) - that he played guitar on a great deal of Kiss reunion album Psycho Circus. It's interesting to note that this is probably the first time, he's publicly admitted doing so. In all press, interview, etc in the past he vehemently denied it.

GENE SIMMONS' FINANCIAL KISS-AND-TELL
(from Larry Getlen/www.bankrate.com via Russell)
KISS began life as a band that scared parents and thrilled a generation by mixing circus-like showmanship and horror-film danger with good ol' '70s power-chord rock 'n' roll. Thirty years later, KISS is nothing less than an American classic. The band has earned more gold records -- 24 -- than any American band in history, and bassist/vocalist/demon Gene Simmons can take much of the credit.

While the drum and lead guitar seats in the band have seen members come and go over the years, Simmons and partner Paul Stanley have been there throughout, and have turned KISS into not just a band, as Simmons likes to say, but a brand. KISS holds more than 2,000 licenses, including everything from comic books and credit cards to condoms and caskets. And while the Israeli-born Simmons, who fell in love with American pop culture as a boy and prides himself on having achieved the American Dream, turned KISS into a business empire, his other ventures have made him a mogul in his own right even beyond his band's achievements.

Simmons' pop culture magazine, Gene Simmons' Tongue, celebrates the rock 'n' roll lifestyle. He has a record label, Simmons Records, and a book imprint, Simmons Books. His first book on that imprint was his own Sex Money Kiss, a book that espouses his virtually Puritan work ethic and business philosophies. He also has a cartoon show about his life as a rock 'n' roll dad called My Dad, the Rock Star, which just debuted on Teletoons, Canada's Cartoon Network.

But right now, Simmons is focusing on the KISS/Aerosmith tour, which he says is shaping up to be one of the year's biggest, and "KISS Symphony: Alive IV," the latest KISS CD and DVD releases. Both formats document KISS' performance with the 60-piece Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, which performed with the band while adorned in full KISS makeup. And, the CD was the first release on KISS Records, the new label the band runs in conjunction with the Sanctuary Records Group.

Bankrate spoke with Simmons, and received some stream-of-consciousness insight into his business philosophies.

Bankrate: How do you decide whether or not to take on a business venture?

Gene Simmons: The deal has to make sense. The aesthetic should pull the heartstrings. The word "cool" is bandied about often enough. NASCAR and the National Hot Rod Association, the NHRA, are cool, and go to the heart of what America is about. So that's why we have KISS cars, and why I was the grand marshal of both two years in a row. Visa cards, corporate credit cards -- as far as I'm concerned that's about as cool as you can get. Corporate America is cool. People hate to admit it, but what's cooler than Starbucks and Coca-Cola? We buy their products and we love them.

Bankrate: With all your businesses, is there anything you turn down?

Gene Simmons: Cigarettes and hard booze. Those are two products I don't personally use, and that's something we can't have on our conscience -- somebody's health problems. But other than that, I'm happy to put KISS on almost anything. We even have KISS Kaskets.

Bankrate: Because we all have to die?

GENE SIMMONS BANNED FROM BORDERS BOOKSTORES
(from Russell)
KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons told Cindy Adams of The New York Post that he's been banned from making appearances at Borders bookstores to sign copies of his new book, "Sex Money Kiss". Borders says it's because the events at his past appearances were all too wild, raunchy and vulgar. "[Is it] my fault women come in and lift their tops or stick their butts in my face for me to autograph? " Gene, 54, asked. "The book's 'Sex, Money, Kiss' not 'The New Testament'. The title I really wanted was, 'Women Are From Mars, Men Have Penises'," Simmons explained. "See, bookstores are quiet places. The first word you learn there is 'Ssshhh.' They're not equipped for a party atmosphere. My fans aren't swinging from chandeliers, but they're enthusiastic and often in cleavage. And I give them my all. I take photos with them, don't take bathroom breaks, and I stay for hours until the very last person."

KISS AND SELL

(from TCPalm.com)
On the road with Aerosmith, Gene Simmons talks about the year's biggest rock 'n' roll juggernaut

By Bill DeYoung Entertainment editor
September 12, 2003

Dinosaurs can still shake the earth.

Kiss and Aerosmith -- two admittedly long-in-the-tooth rock 'n' roll bands -- are showing the youngsters how it's done.

The co-headlining "Rocksimus Maximus" tour, which stops at Sound Advice Amphitheatre tonight, is doing better business than any other road show this year.

"What's great about this is, the fans win," says Gene Simmons, whose demonic Kiss costume and lascivious tongue are better known than much of his band's music. The band's bass player and public spokesman has been selling Kiss for 30 years, and he's part hypnotist, part carnival barker when he's on a roll.

"There are no two American bands, certainly, that have scaled higher heights. For one thing, Aerosmith continues to do well, decade after decade, and Kiss is the No. 1 gold record champion of all time, of any American group."

Calling from a tour stop in Chicago, the 54-year-old Simmons says the two groups are old friends. "It's a mutual admiration society," he explains. "Where most bands would get up onstage and it would be like Holyfield/Tyson, biting body parts off, it's nothing like that with us. Everybody gets along great."

ROCK FAN DIES TRYING TO SNEAK INTO CONCERT

(from www.ohio.com)
Cleveland man collapses on steep embankment on Blossom property

Beacon Journal staff writer

A rock music fan collapsed and died Wednesday night as he climbed a steep embankment to sneak into the Aerosmith and Kiss concert.

David A. Hitsman, 29, of Cleveland could not be revived after being rescued from the embankment near Blossom Music Center.

Hitsman and two other men were trying to enter the concert without paying. The tickets ranged from $50 to $125.

Sheriff's Capt. Larry Momchilov said the three friends walked through woods near Blossom about 8 p.m. and eventually arrived at a steep embankment. The men planned to climb the embankment to reach a fenced area that would lead them into the concert.

``(Hitsman) started up and ran out of breath,'' Momchilov said. ``He couldn't do it. He was starting to complain about chest pains and leg pains.''

The other climbers went for help. An emergency crew rushed to the scene and rescued the man from the embankment, but he had stopped breathing.

It is not clear whether Hitsman had a medical condition or was taking medication.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office has not ruled on the cause of death.

The incident remains under investigation.

``We're obviously deeply saddened for the loss to the family,'' said Blossom general manager David Carlucci. ``We don't have all of the information at this point. Our staff is cooperating with everyone to complete the investigation.''

The area where Hitsman and his friends were is undeveloped Blossom property that is not open to the public.
